Up until recently I guess I assumed we had stopped animal testing on primates in the US. With all the animal rights groups and PETA people out there I figure this kind of thing had stopped. It wasn't until driving home one afternoon, after seeing Planet of the Apes no less, that I saw a sign on a post that read FreeWenka.com and a picture of the eyes of a chimp, that I realized we as Americans had not stopped doing testing on primates and it was happening in my own city.
We are all busy people. We have jobs, deadlines, homes to care for, bills to pay, vacations to take, families and friends to care for. It's hard work to commit yourself to a cause, let alone research and really learn about the one that interests you most. But every once in a while, some people hear something or read something that rocks you to your core and moves you so much that you must do something, anything to help.
That was the way it was for me when I saw the sign about Wenka, went home and looked up the website, FreeWenka.com and made a promise to her and myself that I would do everything in my power to help Her get the freedom she deserves and to put an end to animal testing.
